A Day Trip In Pangasinan : The Death Pool Of Cabongaoan Beach

IMG_0188t
A visit to Cabongaoan Beach will not be completed without witnessing the so-called Deathpool. This is actually the reason why Cabo beach is now placed in the map of the top most visited destinations in Pangasinan.  Thanks to the vlogger and his video that recently became viral online, Deathpool started to gain a lot of attention and it was even featured in different tv shows including the Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho. So what really makes Deathpool so special?

Although the trail is manageable, you still have the pass through this part of the beach that is filled with huge and sharp rocks so you still have to be very cautious with your steps. It takes us around 20-25 minutes of walking from Roven’s Place to the location of the lagoon.

Unfortunately, the waves are not really cooperating with us that day. The waves are too strong and it was not really advisable to go down to where exactly the deathpool lagoon is located unless you are brave enough to fight against those angry waves. Speaking of braveness, they actually said that Deathpool is only for the brave ones not just because of the mad waves but because how deceiving this lagoon is. They will not call it as Deathpool for no reason. According to the locals, the lagoon is more than 20 ft deep. We were told that this is just an opening to a deeper underwater paradise. They said that there are series of underwater caves but no one has ever dared to explore this lagoon in full extent.

Don’t worry, despite of that scary name given to this lagoon, there was no reports yet that someone died here. On top of  that, Cabo Beach is guarded by the so-called Bantay Dagat Team to secure the safety of their tourist. There was even a guy (one of the locals), who was so kind enough to let his sleepers be borrowed by my friend so she can safely pass through that rocky and sharp trail to Deathpool.

IMG_0190tIt’s actually not always like this, there were times that the water and waves were tamed and people can actually swim near or even in the lagoon itself.

IMG_0215tIf you are not brave enough to dive into that Deathpool Lagoon, you can actually settle with that small pool just about two meters away from the larger pool.

After spending enough time marveling the beauty of that Deathpool, we all went back to our cottage for our Boodle Fight lunch!

Interestingly, it was also my first time to taste these seaweeds.

You know, the best part of being on packaged tour is you get the chance to meet new people who will eventually become your friends. (Shout out to these awesome travel buddies Ti Dy, Jana Pasco, DaniCamille Dela Cruz, Raj Andrie Infante Abella and John Kenneth Bagunas).

Things You Should Know Before Visiting Cabongaoan Beach In Pangasinan
►Cabongaoan Beach is accessible but expect a long bumpy ride
►Cottages will range from Php500 to Php2500 (Tables can be rented for 500 in Roven’s Place)
►There is NO entrance fee to Cabongaoan Beach [Roven’s Place]
►Parking Fee is Php100
►Comfort Rooms are available for free
►Stores can be spotted nearby the resort
►You can bring foods too and stoves can be rented as well
►Most cottages have outlets to charge your gears and gadgets
►Some parts of the shore can be very sharp because of the rocks so be cautious
►I spotted dogs on the shore so that is safe to assume that Cabo Beach is pet friendly too
►The place could be really crowded on weekends

How to get to Cabongaoan Beach Resort
►For public transport, you can take a bus from Cubao or Pasay that are bound to Alaminos, Pangasinan. Victory Liner and Five Star Buses offer such route for Php393 to Php400. Once you get to the town proper of Alaminos, ride another bus bound to Burgos (Php30).
►One in Burgos, you can charter a tricycle to take you to Cabangaoan Beach. It’s going to take more or less 45 minutes to reach the beach from the town proper of Burgos. The charge, however, could be really pricey. They charge Php300 for a single ride so make sure to negotiate with the driver so they can fetch you back.

►Better yet, you can look for travel packages online much like what Happy Feet Travel and Tours offered to us. I actually find it more practical than doing a DIY tour because the overall cost will be divided to your group, making it more affordable

Woah! Love all your photos. This Death Pool is quite scary and I think it’s best for the adventurous heart! Still, the beauty of this place is immeasurable. I’ve tasted a seaweed before and it’s not bad at all haha! Love all your travel videos by the way!

Wow, this is truly amazing! The first time I saw this on television, I was really in awe. Naturally made by sturdy waves and really enticing. I also didn’t know that this is located in Pangasinan. 20 feet deep is no joke, I don’t think I’ll give a try to douse myself in this pool, even the waves aren’t that strong. Will you still dare to get inside this natural pool even if the waves aren’t that strong during your visit? I haven’t been to Pangasinan and this will surely be something I should pen on my bucket list, thank you for sharing this with us.

Whoa! Scary name and interesting captures! What if one gets sucked in! That there is no death report from here is quite reassuring! I definitely want to visit the place though not sure if I would want to go in.

Deathpool. Who wouldn’t be intimidated just by hearing the name of the place itself? It’s enough to put anyone on edge. But on a positive note, I guess it forces you to be continually aware of its surroundings, thereby making the trip to it safer. ?

Yes, I agree with you, that is a very scary “pool” that I would not have the courage to get near. At least not when the water is so rough and the waves so big. It’s fascinating to know how deep the lagoon is and that nobody ever dared to explore it underneath. I wonder what secrets does it keep.

I am happy to find out that no really died on the “death pool.” It is such a relief. Though I really do not have the guts to swim there.

I am glad that the local government is working to ensure the safety of the tourists through Bantay Dagat. Kudos to them and to you for this wonderful feature.

atleast, despite the name, there’s a bantay team who’s in charge for the security. That’s also a great rock formation. Perfect for obligatory and buwis-buhay shots. Would love to visit the place if opportunity allows me to.

Oh breath-taking, awe-inspiring photos. The photos themselves showcased the wonders of the place. While some looks scary I can’t help but think of going to the place to witness the beauty with my own naked eyes.

We were supposed to visit Pangasinan this summer but opted for another destination a couple of weeks before our actual trip. I would’ve loved to see the Sunflower Maze there! This beach looks really interesting and there is no wonder why it is growing in popularity amongst tourists. Although I won’t be brave enough to swim in the Deathpool, it would be a thrill of a lifetime to see it upclose. I hope I can visit this place one day soon!
