Island Hopping In Burias : A Glimpse Of Iniwaran Island / Templo Island

IMG_0859t
While on our way to Animasola, we passed by this Island which really took my attention. Unlike the Snake Island (Check: Islang Dapa / Snake Island) and the Sombrero Island, this one has no sandy shore but it has distinctive feature that makes this island quite special ~ it has underground caves! Too bad the island is not really part of our itinerary but I tried my best to get some decent shots of this interesting island in Burias. Thanks to the tourism personal who gave us a brochure about San Pascual, I learned that the island is known as Iniwaran

As you can see, these underground caves are passable and according to the info guide, the cave is filled with astounding amount of stalagmites, stalactites and pillars inside. If we already knew the details about this island, we could have included it on our itinerary. Underground cave exploration sounds really thrilling to me!

They also said that the cave is also inhabited by bats, a variety of reptile species (they’re probably referring to snakes .. yikes) and birds. I was also surprised when I found out that there is a Barangay in this Island. It’s probably located on the other side.
IMG_0871t Another thing that took my attention in this island is that white cross on top. Just like the Islang Dapa, Iniwaran Island is also known by another name, the island is also called as the Templo Island. However, upon checking the Map, it points me to a bigger island. I can’t find any details about the Iniwaran either.

So I came into conclusion that the islet that we saw is probably a portion of Iniwaran / Templo Island where the famous Iniwaran caves are located.

Iniwaran is also popular among thrill-seekers. The deep water surrounding this islet makes Iniwaran a perfect cliff diving spot. It is not a “pabebe” cliff dive though because the cliff is about 20 ft high and if you think you have the guts to do such insane dive, well good for you haha.

I just came across this picture with a brave guy jumping off from that freaking 20 ft high cliff! Wow, I don’t think I have enough courage to do such!
IMG_0878t It could have been a much thrilling journey if we included this island in our itinerary but I will definitely include this island in my next visit to Burias!

How to Get to Burias Island
►This tour was actually hosted by a travel agency so we didn’t need to do anything as the driver will do the rest of the job going to Burias but if you are planning to go here via public transportation, here are the details you should know.
►If you are going to take the Port of San Andres , Quezon, the Superlines buses have direct trips to San Andres (via Unisan) (check the schedules of their trips here). Once you get to the town proper of San Andres, you need to ride a tricycle and ask the driver to take you to the San Andres Port. From there, you can charter a boat for your island hopping tour. As far as I know, the boat can be rented for 7,000 and above (depends on the number of islands you want to visit and also the number of days you want to stay). The amount is good for at least 10 pax

Where To Stay in Burias
►We stayed for a night in Sombrero Island island. The place is ideal enough to accommodate many tourists. There are decent open and closed type cottages in the island and as well as resto and stores. They also have clean comfort rooms and electricity in the island. Cellphone have signals too!
►If you are looking for Hotels in Masbate, you can check the suggested list here

After a long boat ride from Sombrero Island, we finally spotted our next island destination, the Anima Sola Island! I’ll share more about this interesting island and its impressive rock formations in my next #IslandHoppingInBurias entry.

I’m glad you were able to get some good shots of Iniwaran. (What a great name by the way!)
I really love caves. It’s nice that you found some info in the brochure. The caves definitely sound like worth a visit. The place where I live has caves as well. But totally different ones! The ones here are made of marl. I’ve been there quite often. Interesting that the caves on Iniwaran are inhabited by bats, reptile species and birds. The diving spot looks impressive! I’m not sure if I would have the courage.

I have a few friends who live in Burias Island and they are so “game” sa mga ganyang talunan! Baka himatayin ako kung ako. Plus, I don’t know how to swim, so I don’t think that’s even possible! haha. You have really lovely photos here, the place looks wonderful! I so love the PH, andaming pwedeng puntahan! ♥

I really admire your adventurous trips! Maybe in another life, I’ll give these a try. Haha! The grassy side of the island looks dreamy, and I hope for the best on your next trip, if ever you decide to go cliff-diving when you go to this island. 🙂

Ooh, cliff diving in a beautiful place! Reminds me of canyoneering in Badian, Cebu. ^_^ Iniwaran Island does seem like the type for thrill-seekers. By your description, I’d have loved to go explore there too. But I am not exactly thrilled about the bats though. Haha. Creepy.

These cliffs are so foreboding but the waters are calm, blue, serene. The boat seems to settle easily in that cove. I hope this location has good internet connections too so that pictures can be uploaded quickly.

Island hopping is truly an adventure. When I saw “Burias” in the title, I knew it had to be in Masbate. So happy that people/travelers like you are exploring our country little by little. The Sombrero Island reminded me of the island where Luke Skywalker was hiding out after Episode 6. If you’ve seen Episode 7, you’ll know what I mean. Nevertheless, it’s so fun to read your posts! Hope you get more travels in our country!

The island is indeed interesting, but I don’t think I would dare going there. First of all, I would be scared of the caves. (Yeah, I can be a coward from time to time.) And second of all, the cliffs look scary too. But the brave ones should not avoid this lovely place for sure.

Wow, i didn’t know that Burias Islad is really this beautiful. Cliff diving has long been just a dream, but I tried once, I just didn’t have the courage to do it again. I’m really scared of heights, except for ZipLine, cause i find it fun. Anyway, I haven’t been to Burias and reading your post sounds like a real temptation. I’ll surely visit Burias Island soon. I love the cave, it looks so magical. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

What a lovely place! Perfect for adventurers. Although… I’m having second thoughts because of the bats and the possibility of snakes! Eek! Nevertheless, the water looks really beautiful and it’s definitely a place that looks like it’s worth exploring. I probably wouldn’t cliff dive, but good to know that this can be done there!

The cave reminds me of our very own National Park and a UNESCO heritage site in Palawan. I’m amazed exploring it – calm, cool but dark and probably with lots of snakes, too. Yikes! It could be like that inside. Kudos for your curiosity and very nice shots of it. You’ve placed it on the map of travellers, adventurers and thrill-seekers! Thanks for hotel lists of comfortable accomodations, too.
