A Trip To Binondo : Nuestra Señora Dela Soledad De Manila Parish

1111111

After meeting my brother and staying a bit on San Lorenzo Ruiz Plaza, we decided to visit another church. Actually I am the one who insist them to go with me. Ever since I saw the image of Our Lady of Solitude of Manila in Grand Marian Procession in Intramuros, I’ve always wanted to visit the chapel where the image is enshrined. I did some research and found out that the image is enshrined in a small chapel in Camba St in Binondo and so I made sure to include the place on my itinerary.P2072981ttThanks God we have Google Maps and we  were able to trace where the Camba St is but I am quite surprised that most of the residents that we asked are not aware of the chapel nor the image. P2072975tP2072977tWhile we are on our way to Camba St, we passed by this Arch of Solidarity (arko ng kaisahan). It is just one of the arches that we encountered during our trip in BinondoP2072978tWe also encountered this old and seemingly abandoned house. I don’t know but I think the place was featured on a documentary show or maybe it’s another building but this one looks really eerie yet fascinating.P2072984ttAfter few minutes of walking someone told us that there was a chapel at the end of the street which brought us to the Nuestra Señora Dela Soledad De Manila Parish. 20160207_083436tIt was indeed a small chapel and is relatively new. It was established in 2009 exactly on the “Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel” (July 16).20160207_083732tCompare to the pictures I have seen online, I was mesmerized to see an all new altar. It looks really amazing. The image of Soledad De Manila or Nuestra Señora de la Soledad de Camba is enshrined in the middle of the altar20160207_083757tThe closer look of the main altar20160207_083746tThough not much is known of the image, it is said to have been honored since 1884. I’m not sure though where the image is enshrined prior to the building of this chapel. 20160207_083937tMiracles have also been attributed to this mysterious icon. It is said that the entire neighborhood where it resides has always been protected from the fires which gutted the Binondo area many times. The Camba district has also been spared from other kinds of calamities and even the ravages of wars.
20160207_083832tSoledad de Camba’s feast day is every January 1.
After that long and tiring walk from Binondo Church to Camba St, we decided to take our breakfast at Cafe Mezzanine.

Yep, you’re right. These symbols and figures are filled with ornaments and bright colors. I’m not really interested in religious figures like this but I do appreciate the painstaking effort on how the people designed these items meticulously.

I’m not big on religious images but the artistic process involved in crafting these figures are very fascinating! Looks like a fun tour you had! 😉

This is my first time to hear about the church. It seems small but has very intricate designs. The altars, in general, are always beautiful. It some how represents the kind of beauty our people has for faith.

From Binondo Church (San Lorenzo Ruiz Plaza), you can just cross the San Fernando Bridge.. just continue walking until you reached the Pedro Guevarra Elementary school… turn right to Camba St.. direchohin mo lang until you spot the yellow chapel of Senora Dela Soledad de Manila
