How My Faith Changed Me?

IMG_20160211_063532tIn our life, things will always not work according to how we planned it. No matter how well we envision our life, unexpected things will come and changed everything beyond our imagination. If you are a pessimistic person, you might consider life as unfair game or worst, you might even blame God for taking you in a path that you really do not want to be with. I used to have this kind of mindset before in a point that I blame God for almost everything. I came to a point that I go to church not to pray or attend a mass but to curse Him. I even destroy a rosary apart and other worst thing that you can never imagine. My life is nothing but a misery and that’s what I thought it was.

When I was working in Makati, Baclaran Church has become a normal sight to me. The buses from Cavite will normally stop near the Baclaran while the jeepneys bound to Ayala can be found near the site. Since I usually arrive early, for some reason, I decided to spend at least 5 to 10 minutes praying in front of the image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. As time passes by, I realized that my prayers are becoming deeper that I’m starting to find peacefulness every time I kneel down and pray. I even cry and I do not even bother if anyone sees me weeping. It was a sudden change of faith and I started to realized how blessed I am by appreciating those simple things that came to my life unexpectedly.

There comes the time when I started to feel tired with my job and I got this feeling that I wanted to resign, I asked God to give me a sign whether I should give up or not. A day after that , my supervisor immediately approached me and assigned me as an OIC that day. It was such a huge and unexpected leap from my position and I thought , it was probably the sign I am wishing for. From then on, my devotion has become stronger and my faith gave me hopes and takes me to a path that I never expected myself to walk on through.

It was 2013, Year of Faith when I attended a mass with a homily that left a huge mark on me. The priest was inviting people to make the Year of Faith meaningful not just by attending the mass every Sunday but also to be part of any Church organization. I once again asked God to give me a way and let me be a part of a Church organization. I don’t have the courage to approach any ministry that time but God is really working in his own ways. A group of Legion of Mary was celebrating their Awareness month and recruiting new members at the same time. That’s the opportunity God has given me so I didn’t hesitate to grab it.

Just because you are part of any church organization or you became religious doesn’t mean you will not face any trials or challenges in life. In fact, the challenges I have are more difficult to handle. However, unlike before, my mindset changed drastically that instead of blaming God for all these difficulties, I pray instead and asked God for more strength so I can make it through! I can say that I am facing some of the darkest chapters of my life right now but these will never bring me down. Everything happens for a reason and God always has plans for us so just go with the Flow and trust Him. Like what the Bible said, if you really want to follow Jesus you must be prepared to carry your cross and turn from your selfish ways.

If you are down or troubled, just go somewhere peaceful and communicate with Him. You do not have to recite prayers.. just talk to Him in casual way.. He listens!

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you

PS: I just wanna share you these incredible sight I took.. I just find them so relaxing hehe

It was a very timely article on showing our faith in God especially during the Lenten season. We, Filipinos have strong faith in God because we believe that every blessings and challenges in life came from God to become a better person.

Though my church attendance is a problem as I had skipped aplenty, my faith still is intact as I offer prayers every morning and evening. God is the only One I have who makes me stronger and even if I do not ‘see’ visible signs, I know He answers my prayers.

I admire your faith and how you solemnly communicate with God. It’s really important that we pray often even just to thank him.

Faith doesn’t work if there is something that keeps you away from doing good. If you are in doubt nothing will work. No one is exempted for the trials may come. His faith, unwavering faith may urge him to do what the Lord has wanted him to do.

Only faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His Atonement can bring us peace, hope, and understanding.
