My First ToyCon Experience #ToyConPh2016

As far as the program schedule is concerned, it seems like the organizers failed to follow the suggested line up of celebrities to perform onstage. In fact, some of the listed performers didn’t even show up. Despite of these few lapses, the event turned out pretty successful.

Daniel LoganIMG_0366tYou may not recognized him today because he is all grown up and he no longer has those curly long hair but yes, he is Daniel Logan who is best known for his role as the young Boba Fett from the 2002 film Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones where he also got nominated for an award. Daniel told everything about his post experience after his successful portrayal of Boba Fett. He shared his story on how he got this iconic role and also his future plans for his career.

Encantadia
IMG_0371tEncantadia cast had their turn exactly on time they were scheduled to appear. Encantdia is one of the highly anticipated Fantaserye of GMA Network. It is a fantasy series that follow a story of four “Sangre” and their adventures to protect their threatened kingdom. It’s quite disappointing though that the cast were not in their flamboyant costumes unlike what they have shown on Day 2. On top of it, the stars made a very short appearance on stage before heading to the Medialounge booth for Authograph signing and photo opportunity with their fans. IMG_0376tFrom left to right ; Klea Pineda (Muyak), Ruru Madrid (Ybarro), Kylie Padilla (Amihan) and Glaiza De Castro (Pirena).IMG_0389tAfter the cast left, Director Mark Reyes and Encantadia lead visual artist , Noel Flores took the stage to answer questions from the shows’ hard core fans who are better known as the ‘Encantadiks”. Here’s what I have learned about the show so far:

  • This is not the first time they attempted to revive the series. The previous attempts failed to push through. Despite the failure attempts to bring Enctandia back on the tv screen, Noel Flores never stopped designing and visualizing what the next Encantadia would be like. So when this perfect time arrived and the Network approved the return, they are no longer starting from scratch since they already have plans and you can clearly tell how long they have been preparing for the show.
  • There is no plans yet for Mulawin. Mulawin is another fantaserye of GMA where the concept of Encantadia were taken from. The team is now taking Encantadia as their top priority but even though they got no plans yet  Mulawin’s appearance on the shown could be a possibility.
  • Encantadia’s songs will still be sung by Bayang Barios, the same artist behind the show’s famous song Tadhana. Gabbi Garcia who will portray Alena will also showcase her singing skills in the show and might sing one main track from the series much like what Karylle did way back in 2005.
  • Encantadia 2016 will be a “requel”, a retelling of events and also a sequel. They will stick to the original plot, the origin of the story but they will add other surprising twists along the way.  They will feature new locations (possibly a new unexplored Kingdom as teased by Direk Mark) and new set of characters including the one portrayed by Sunshine Dizon.

IMG_0422ttThe stars of Encantadia signing Autographs and interacting withtheir fans.  From left to right ; Carlo Gonzales, Vaness Del Moral (Gurna), Rocco Nacino (Aquil), Sanya Lopez (Danaya) and Kylie Padilla (Amihan)IMG_0423ttSanya looks really gorgeous! I can’t wait to see her in this tv series!

Bronson Pelletier and Kiowa Gordon

IMG_0402tIf you are a big fan of the Twilight Saga, then you must be familiar with these two. Unfortunately I am not but I know that they are two of the werewolves from the hit film series. Bronson played the shape shifter werewolf named Jared Cameron while Kiowa played another wolf named Embry Call. Unfortunately for the fans of Twilight, these werewolves graced the stage now to showcase their well-trimmed body much like the roles they depicted in the movie but instead, they will show off their funny sides. The two shared their stories on how they got their respective roles, how much they enjoyed their stay here in the Philippines and also their future projects.

Oh wow this is my thing! I wish I could have actually gone to this toycon. Me and my boyfriend already have some plans for some geeky conventions in the UK this year, but unfortunately PH is a bit too far away haha. Loved the pictures and glad you had fun

I’ve never been to a Toycon although I am a collector of figurines from the Marvel/DC universe and also Tintin. I will definitely attend one of these someday. Nice post 🙂

It was late when I got a notification that there will be a Toycon event happening so I wasn’t able to go. I wanted to go here with my brother because he was obsessed with toys and at the age of 14, he still keeps his legos with him. Haha! I’m more of a person who’s always focusing on the experience I’m going to have rather than the “Ang mahal nung entrance wag na tayo pumunta” person. So Php500 for an entrance? Well, that won’t be a problem! 😉

I’ve never heard about this Con, but there are so much in the world ! And this one is in PH so I guess that’s why Haha. As my girlfriend just said, we love conventions and already planed some, in the UK but she forgot to mention in the US as well Haha. We are fresh newbies though, and will start cosplaying for convention. The only one we made was in Montpellier coz I was working for it. At least we met some actors and comics drawers as I was driving them around. Who knows, maybe we’ll have the chance to do the ToyCon !

This looks like fun. I’ve never been to a Toycon or any kind of convention. I have been to a Renaissance Faire which is the closest I can think of. But I agree that Hodor and Dean Cain are good celebrities for a convention.

This must have been a truly great event for toy collectors and kids at heart. A friend also joined the event and he mentioned he even won second place to one contest. His sons were really proud of him. And it came as a surprise as he just came to the event to have fun. And surely you also had fun.

I’d never heard of toycon before your post today!! Looks super fun though and love that you could have your make up done like a zombie. Did people dress up like they do at other conventions?

Wow, this brings back good old memories of when my college barkada go to Toycon and Comicon together. I remember there were cosplayers then, do they still have those now?
