Pinoy Candies and Snacks From 80s to 90s That Are Still Available Today

12. Ampaw – I’m pretty sure you have seen and eaten this sweet and crunchy rice pops before! Interestingly, Ampaw or ampao is made from dried cooked rice, usually left-over rice. It is known as rice crispies to others. Ampaw can be bought for Php1 each. It comes up with different shapes too including these round crispies, square and even those in assorted colors. P5065055t

13. HawHaw Milk Powder Candy – Who would ever forget these milky rectangle-shaped powder candy which melts in your mouth? Not to mention that wonderful smell! Good thing Haw Haw candies are still available today to satisfy our sweet tooth. P5065059t

14. Mik-Mik Sweetened Powder – With Mik-Mik.. “Mapapaubo ka sa Sarap”! I’m sure you still remember that iconic slogan! Mik-Mik has been one of the most popular pinoy snack of the 90s and we’re glad to see that this powdered milk is still available in the market! t’s a sweetened milk powder sold in a sachet with a matching straw to boot. Some prefer it by pouring this milk in a glass of water!P5065060t

15. DooDoo Candy – A pacifier that is meant not just for kids! For those who grew up in 90s will still remember this fun treat! DooDoo is basically taken from a slang or a baby talk “dudu” which means a baby asking for milk either via bottle or via mom’s breast. DooDoo is notable for its citrus flavor and it’s just fun to consume it as it feels like you a toddler sucking on a pacifier!P5065062t

16. Sunshine Crunchy Green Peas – Some of you may  still remember this snack from your childhood days. Sunshine are basically crunchy green peas which is not just addictive but is also undeniably healthy! The snack is manufactured by M&T Food Industries INC, the same company that manufactures Expo Peanuts., another iconic pinoy snack!

17. White Rabbit – Should I eat that paper wrap or not? I bet you had that question before! White Rabbit Creamy candy remains to be one of the most popular candies that Pinoy used to enjoy in 80s and 90s. To answer that question, YES, that paper is edible and is made from sticky rice. The real White Rabbit encountered some safety issues in early 2000s and was nearly banned from our country. You can also find a lot of imitations but they are hard and not chewy at all.

This is such an extensive list of candies and snacks. You made me feel nostalgia as I saw some of the candies and snacks that I used to eat with my childhood friends.

Anyway, as I came from Quezon City, I didn’t get to try the Jovi’s Nata De Coco. It looks so interesting to me. I may just look for it when I had the chance to visit Laguna. Meanwhile, the White Rabbit, we used to ate was the chewy type. I miss that kind with its edible paper wrapper.

<<>> As soon as I saw your title (of this post), I KNEW IT! CHOC-NUT!!!

Let me share this with you. When I lived in Boracay for five years, our dive shop was located on Lorenzo Resorts Main. It does not exist now, but during that time, one of my partners was the owner of the resort.

He once had a guest and while talking, somehow, the conversation went to candies. My partner then proudly said his favorite is Choc-Nut. The person he was talking to was even more proud – turns out he was the owner of the company that makes Choc-Nuts!

Haha! Crazy list. I felt it was like some sort of throwback. 🙂 I didn’t know some candies and snacks were still being sold today, except for Chocnut. I still love it and I actually have a pack right now waiting for me in the fridge. Haha! Thanks!

Interesting! I have never heard of any of these. But I’m sure I would love Choco-nut because I love chocolate peanut candies. Really I like any candy! We have our own nostalgic snacks in the US too–like Count Chocula cereal!

Ahh! Blast from the Past! The time when we didn’t care about eating all the ‘junk’ in the world. I remembered Choc-Nut and Stay Fresh. I still have some Choc-Nut every now and then, but it’s sad I can’t see Stay Fresh candies anymore.

I love choc-nut! Back then once I eat one I would find a hard time stop. I always have one on my bag and my mom would scold me because I have been eating a lot of it. The blockbuster milk chocolate does the same thing for me as well. I can finish a pack in one seat! lol…

I miss those white rabbit candies! I haven’t had those in a long time! I have encountered the hard version which is nothing like the ones with the wrapper. Curly Tops and Flat Tops are still a popular chocolate choice at home. I think my kids still eat Mik Mik even though they’re teens!
