If you are into video games or other geeky stuffs, then you might enjoy this cool hang out place that we discovered in Marikina few weeks ago. Secret Base Lounge and Board game Cafe is absolutely a geeks haven! We traveled all the way from Cavite just to reach this place. The traffic, however, is really terrible and very exhausting! Located along the Panorama Street, Concepcion Dos in Marikina City, Secret Base Lounge and Board Game Cafe will welcome their visitors with their unique “geeky” atmosphere.
The place is located on the top most floor of a commercial building. The colorful ambiance will greet you as you enter their hub. The place is divided in different rooms or areas. If you want a normal dining area, they got rustic table and chairs for you but if you want a homey-feeling, you can take their long coffee tables surrounded by colorful bean bags. They also have cribs for small groups. On top of that, they can also offer space on their gaming area for foods.
The walls are adorned with colorful details inspired from various games, anime, movies and other pop culture references.
Visitors may access any of their available gaming consoles with wide range of games to choose from. These consoles include PS4, WiiU, PlayStation VR and Just Dance. Please be mindful that they follow a “first come first serve” policy. Take note that the usage is not free. Kindly refer to the details below.
Well, while waiting for your turn, you can actually play any of their available board games. They offer an overwhelming amount of board games and other table top games to choose from. These include the popular Cards Against Humanity, Penguin Trap, Jenga and a whole lot more.
You can also spend the rest of the time marveling their awesome toy collections. Here’s a huge scaled model of Hulkbuster!
Harry Potter Funko Pop collection on display
How about this cool Gostbuster toy collection?
Another interesting part of Secret Base is that visitors are also allowed to try their ready-to-wear costumes! You can wear their Jedi robes and wield their lightsabers while taking picture with their instagrammable walls!
They also have Mario and Luigi costumes which can be taken perfectly with their colorful Mario Land wall. They also have One Piece-inspired costumes (Portgas D Ace and Boa Hancock Robe)
Their menu is equally catchy. All their dishes are named after different game and anime characters. They got this cool Dynamic Duo menu, a 500 Peso worth meal which is good for two servings, hence the name.
The servings are generous and their sumptuous and overly decorated “freak shakes” are probably the best part of their menu. The shakes are interestingly named after various marvel characters. (From Left to Right : Strawberry Stark [Php150] , Fantastic S’mores [Php160], Captain’s Chocolate [Php150], Salted Caramel Smash [Php150]
They also offer a Basic version of these shakes with prices ranging from Php90 to Php110. They also offer Coffee Based Frappes and Milo cold drinks (Prices from Php60-110).
They also offer rice meals with prices ranging from Php110 to Php170. We had the 2 Pc Chicken for Php140, Burger Steak for Php110. We also tried their Dynamic Duo meals. “Captain and Iron Man” ~ The basket with Single Layer Waffle Maiden, Noob Burger and Kratos Nachos is worth Php500 (it includes 2 Freak Shakes).
The Ken and Ryu Dynamic Duo meal is composed of a Clubhouse Sandwich, Secret Base Special Pizza Solo, Spaghetti and a Level Up Lemonade drink. This is also worth Php500
Please be mindful that the use of game consoles is not really for free. The rates for PS4 and WiiU rates will vary depending on the number of players – 1 Player=Php80/hour , 2 Players=Php100/hour , 3 Players= Php120/hour, and 4 Players =Php130/hour.
You can also celebrate your birthday in Secret Base with their Party Packages (check: http://www.secretbasecafe.com/party-packages.html) where the celebrant will be given a free Freak shake of his or her choice!
By the way, while we are on our way to Secret Base, we also spotted another equally interesting Cafe, the House of Unicorn.
We took a quick peek inside. It was like a cotton candy transformed as a cafe haha
So while guys are busy with their consoles, girls can hang out here and embrace the dream-like atmosphere!
