35th Intramuros Grand Marian Procession 2014
The first Sunday of December marks one of the grandest and highly anticipated events for Marian Devotees. This is the day when the Feast of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception (the principal Patroness of the Philippines) is being celebrated. As part of this event, one of the highlights of the celebration is the much awaiting “Grand Marian Procession”. It is an annual event honoring the Immaculate Conception’s patronage where various statues of the Virgin Mary depicting her different titles and apparitions are borne in procession. The images are removed from their respective shrines and brought around the Spanish colonial capital district of Intramuros towards Manila Cathedral, which is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. This year marks the 35th Intramuros Grand Marian Procession. The event was yearly organized by The Cofradia de la Inmaculada Concepcion. The procession despite of the rain and typhoon signal warnings, started at 4 pm in front of the Manila Cathedral. The event was a success although the number of participants this year is quite few compare to last year’s procession. As far as I know, there were only 94 Marian images this year (not to mention those who failed to make it through the event). Some of the highlights of the Grand Marian Procession this year includes the huge and highly flamboyant Carroza of Nuestra Señora Dela Esperanza Macarena, the Aetas of Botolan Zambales horing their very own Patroness, the Ina Poon Bato and as well as the cheerful Karakol dance of the Reina De Caracol devotees from Rosario Cavite.
