Cavite City To Hold The 42nd Live Via Crucis

16809240039_58f212cf3e_ztHoly Week is nearly approaching and one of the much anticipated event here in Cavite City during the Lenten Season is the “Live Via Crucis”. It is basically an annual cultural and spiritual tradition in Cavite City. Via Crucis or “Station of the Cross” is a passion play done during the Holy Week in which participants (a group of local residents of Cavite City) wore biblical costumes and took center stage of the town plaza to dramatize the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.  It showcases different acts stated in the written Fourteen Stations of the Cross where one station usually last for 15-20 minutes (including the prayers).16809264409_e08e4d8279_z

This annual event has been celebrated since 1974 and this year marks its 42nd anniversary.16994514461_1252f4327c_z The date is not officially announced but it could either be on Holy Tuesday or Holy Wednesday! I will give you an update soon!

** UPDATE **

The Live Via Crucis will be held on Holy Tuesday (March 22, 2016) at 4:00pm.

A mass will be held prior to the passion play in San Roque Parish Church at 2:00pm

Much like last year, the starting point or the First Station will be held in San Roque Parish Church and the route will end in Grandstand/ track field of CNHS (beside the Montano Hall)

There is also that kind of passion play in Laguna. 🙂 This is a good thing because it will somehow remind you of God’s sacrifices. May we all have a great and meaningful Holy Week.

This is different pa ba from penitensya? I would love to watch as long as there’s no blood and actual nailing on the cross.

As a Catholic, It’s very nice to know that there are still towns upholding such sacred traditions this coming holy week. I must admit I had no idea what “Live Via Crucis” was until your post. Thank you!

It’s nice to know that in the era of technology, we are still continuing traditions like this. I remember seeing one like this when I was a kid.

So its a form of “sinakulo sa daan” pala. It’s good that we have community activity like this because the message of the cross is passed on from one generation to the other

Filipinos are really religious. Even though people are technology dependent, we do not forget our religion. More updates huh!

I haven’t seen performances like these for a long time. It will be a great experience, a holy experience, to be able to watch on Lenten.

Great thanks for the heads up! What I really look forward to in the Holy Week is the culture of Filipinos coming out to depict their love for religion.
