During our trip in Ilocos, we came across wide range of products including the wine called Basi. Although I don’t drink much, I know for the fact that wine has an overwhelming amount of benefits. Some of these benefits will even surprise you. While most of us don’t need an excuse to drink more wine, it turns out science has given us one anyway—wine has health benefits—and lots of them. How can a glass a day help your health?
The antioxidants in red wine have been shown to have health benefits. Antioxidants that are not in the form of a supplement have shown to be beneficial for heart health and fighting off infections. They also slow down the harmful effects of daily environmental stresses.
Wine is also rich with Resveratrol which is a polyphonic bioflavonoid antioxidant that fights the effects of ageing. Resveratrol has shown to be beneficial in preventing the growth of tumors (cancer) because of its inhibitory effects on the inflammatory response that can happen within the body. It has also proven to help with cardiovascular health because of how it prevents arteries in the heart from thickening to the point they’re detrimental to one’s health.
In moderate doses, red wine has proven to be beneficial against gum disease and tooth decay. The active compounds responsible are polyphenols which naturally fight off bad bacteria that cause these kinds of issues.
Type 2 Diabetes
Medical studies have shown that the risk of type 2 diabetesis lowered in men in women who drink wine three to four times per week in moderation. This positive effect is not beneficial for every individual though, and, of course, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can lead to liver damage and other serious medical conditions.
Wine delivers four percent of the daily recommended intake of magnesium with each serving. The benefits of magnesium include decreased anxiety, increased bone health, increased heart health, and better calcium absorption. Many wine tastings are available, such as Niagara on the lake wine tours, that will have a variety of wines that can be enjoyed.
There is a small amount of zinc within wine which is very beneficial for many aspects of your health. Zinc has been shown to help regulate the growth of acne because of how it affects testosterone levels in the body. It also has shown beneficial in promoting weight loss, improve brain function, prevent prostate cancer, and a series of other benefits to keep the body healthy.
Lower Blood Pressure
Non-alcoholic wine can help lower blood pressure better than red wine. Red wine will still help with this issue in small doses, but there are possible side-effects due to the natural warnings that come with alcohol consumption.
Vitamin B-6 is in wine but not large amounts by any means. Vitamin B-6 is beneficial because low levels can lead to depression, though more research is needed as far as how much it combats depression when it is added to one’s diet. However, adding this vitamin to one’s diet has proven to be beneficial against anemia.
Phosphorus in wine makes up three percent of your recommended daily intake which will help your bones stay strong and your muscles heal after exercise. It also helps with the health of your kidneys and keeps your heart beating at a regular pace. The amount of phosphorus that is recommended for adults is 700mg, so having a healthy diet in addition to drinking wine will ensure that you receive allthe benefits available from this nutrient.
