Balut ala Tokneneng

PhotobucketOh yes! My “Balut” obsession continues and you can’t stop me from loving this famous Filipino delicacy. Actually, Balut is taking it up to the next level because it is now being served in a different way. I’m not really sure with the name but for the luck of the better term, i will call it as “Balut ala Tokneneng” because the balut is being cooked the Tokneneng way. Tokneneng are hard boiled eggs that are dipped with yellowish or reddish batter and deep-fried until it becomes crispy. To eat Tokneneng you may dip it with vinegar with spices or sweet sauce. Balut, on the other hand is a fertilized duck embryo that is boiled alive in way that you can recognize the baby duck inside. Some of my Malaysian friends find it quite disgusting while others find it interesting and exotic. I really don’t mind the appearance actually because I am all after it’s taste. I used to buy street foods before going home after my work. Usually, you can see a lot of Balut vendors roaming around the street at night to sell the eggs but now, you can see a lot of carts and stalls occupying the sidewalks selling these “balut ala tokneneng” and other street foods.
PhotobucketI really don’t mind buying balut or penoy from them but i would suggest that they should get a more presentable stalls to attract more buyers. We cannot please all people and some of them are quite sensitive when it comes to sanitation and other related matters. They should have established a better eating place to keep foods safe from any sort of germs or bacteria. It doesn’t have to be large or expensive. A nice and clean table and a stainless steel sink are good enough to maintain the cleanliness and orderlinessĀ  of their stalls. Oh great! Now I am craving for another Balut again! >_<
