Regada Water Festival 2015

It was Wet and Wild yesterday in Regada Water Festival. It is definitely bigger and better than last year but unfortunately I wasn’t able to witness the colorful parade but I was lucky enough to see the sprinklers in action. Regada Water Festival is an annual celebration held every June 18 to 24. The Basayawan was the highlight of the event which is celebrated on the 24th in celebration of The Feast of Saint John The Baptist. Compare to other water festivals in the country like the famous Watta Watta Festival in San Juan, Batanggas The Regada is relatively new and this year was it’s 20th annual celebration with the tagline “Basa Ba Kamo?.. E Di Wet!”
P6242350t Interestingly, the term Regada was basically derived from a Spanish word “Regar” which means to water or the sprinkle. It is a yearly tradition that is often associated with several water festivities such as Street Dance Parade, Karakol of San Juan Bautista, several other games and contests and of course the “Basaan” where people splash water to anyone whether they are strangers or not.
P6242348t The event this year was pretty much overcrowded and I have a strong feeling that it was the sexy group “Mocha Girls” are one of the reasons behind it. They graces the stage to entertain the Caviteños and it was a huge blast.
collagetttt My family enjoying the event. It would be nice to bring your own water gun or squirt gun but make sure not to include food coloring in the water and not to use cold water as well. Some people will also spread soap and bubbles on your face while others are generous enough to offer you a shot of alcohol.
P6242353t The fire fighters and their firetrucks were also part of the event not for a rescue mission but to splash water to everyone.
P6242357t There is one important rule in this event and that is to keep your temper aside. Anyone can splash water to you and you must be sport enough to play with it.
P6242359 The sprinklers in action. The event also coincide with the Feast of San Juan which follows a Karakol held the same day at 1o’clock .

ah, it’s the much awaited Regada Water Festival.. yes, it’s colorful as i can see from the photos.. there is also stage performance, as well as a water sprinkler, wow, i can see it’s so much fun there, hahaha!! it really looks like what i have always seen from the Songkran in Thailand.. everyone’s having fun playing with water, and kids must be the most happy since they need no permission from parents but can play as if license were already given, hahaha!!

love the two photos of your family, beautiful!!! 🙂

I do not really agree very much with so much wasting of water for such purpose. But I guess to each his own. The San Juan City festival can really get out of hand with hooligans who spray water inside cars and into the raincoats of passers-by. I hope this one does not degenerate into disorder in the future.

yes, i think i have to agree with you.. it just so happened that I grew up celebrating this event once a year… maybe they can come up with something better the next years to conserve water… although part of the event is the “Linis Dalampasigan” that aims to clean the sea sides

Basaan is a yearly tradition and I have seen how people do it in San Juan on TV (morning show). I think it’s a fun event and everyone just has to be game.

It is really a fun event/festival to have however, I agree with Fred. Do we really need to waste that much water yearly just to wet the people around? And honestly, it’s a pretty annoying tradition because they event wet people who are off to work! Those people are trying to make a living!

I agree with you Louise… this is also the reason why they make June 24 a holiday but then, those who are working outside Cavite still have to bear with the celebration ..
