Caru Caruhan de Malabon Lenten Exhibit in SM Rosario, Cavite
In celebration of the upcoming Holy Week, the organizers and the camareros behind the yearly Caru Caruhan de Malabon procession of General Trias, Cavite and the management of SM Rosario teamed up for a week-long lenten exhibit that will showcase a collection of miniature processional images. Prior to the pandemic, Caru Caruhan de Malabon is usually celebrated with a grand procession at night on the palm Sunday. The processional images will be borne by their beautiful small carrozas and will grace the streets of General Tria, Cavite.
This year marks the 7th year of Caru Caruhan de Malabon with the theme “Cuaresma en Tiempo de Pandemia” (Lent during Pandemic). Generally, the exhibit will showcase a collection of miniature processional images that are owned by different camareros from various parts of Cavite. The lenten exhibit officially opened last March 22 and will run til March 31, 2022. It is held on the 2nd Floor of SM Cinema in Rosario, Cavite.
Interestingly, this yearly procession of miniature images in General Tria, Cavite is inspired by the Caru Caruhan de Regidor in Binangonan, Rizal which is also inspired by a religious tradition in Colombia, where children process their own child-size santos. Caru Caruhan de Regidor had been celebrated since the early 80s in Rizal and it all started when kids started to imitate the traditional Holy Week procession by bringing out their own miniature or even hand-made santos.
Here are some of the processional images from the Caru Caruhan de Malabon exhibit in SM Rosario
