La Dolorosisima: En Su Corazon Lenten Exhibit in Tanza, Cavite

After the successful Santo Niño exhibit early this year (Check: Santo Niño Exhibits in Cavite) , the Centro Agustino de Tanza reopens its doors for yet another remarkable exhibition. The Diocesan Shrine of San Agustin and Parish of Sta. Cruz is now inviting everyone to witness a Lenten exhibit entitled “La Dolorosisima: En Su Corazon”. It’s an exhibition that will showcase Mary’s inexpressible sorrows during the Passion and Death of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

The exhibit will be held in Centro Agustino De Tanza building (located just beside the church) and will run from February 17 to March 3, 2021 (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM). The exhibit will showcase a great number of Marian images depicting her pain and sorrow during the passion and death of Jesus. In common religious Catholic imagery, the Virgin Mary is portrayed, sorrowful and in tears, with one or seven long knives or daggers piercing her heart, often bleeding.

The seven long knives or daggers piercing her heart indicates the Seven Sorrows (or Dolors). These are the events in the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary that are a popular devotion and are frequently depicted in art (from the prophecy of Simeon to the Burial of Jesus). These beautiful Marian images are under the care of different camareros who exert all their time, effort, and devotion to keep these images in great condition. Here are the images presented in La Dolorosisima: En Su Corazon exhibit in Tanza.
